The Island - l'Île de batz :

Directly opposite Roscoff, and only fifteen minutes on the small ferry, l’Île de Batz offers a complete change of scenery that stretches from east to west over a 3.5 kilometers. This little bit of land is 320 hectares and counts a population of 507. It includes many services and ammenities. Life on the island is composed of three main activities : agriculture, fishing, and tourism, with several little commerces and artisans.

Having opened itself up to tourism, the island has not lost its identity. Agriculture and fishing remain the two sectors that strive to keep traditions alive whilst moving forward and modernising. Thanks to the employement of seaweed in the fields, there are two harvests a year, while fishermen have developped the harvest of seaweed and introducing it into the agri-food and cosmetic industry. Agriculture is part of the island’s scenery, creating a diverse and incredible view alongside spectacular dunes and fine-sand beaches with rocky coastlines.

The island has plenty of walkways both along the coast and inland. No need to worry about getting lost, all roads lead back to the sea and the port.
